PETALING JAYA, June 28 (Sin Chew Daily) — A restaurant in SS15 Subang Jaya was slapped with a RM10,000 fine for operating beyond 8pm closing time.
Rata Restaurant owner and chef T. Vicneswara, uploaded a video on Instagram to explain that the restaurant received many orders at 7.30pm from Grab, and he was trying his best to complete the orders before 8pm.
Manpower in the restaurant was also reduced to 60% during lockdown and in order not to disappoint the customers, he said all orders were completed at 8.25pm.
"Unfortunately, the enforcement officers came in. We tried to ask for leniency but was slapped with a RM10,000 summons instead.
"The RM10,000 fine is a huge sum for us at this moment," he said.
Vicneswara said he would be visiting the Health Ministry on Monday to seek help.
He also lamented the restaurant was operating under constraints and faced with abnormal business volume.
"We work very hard to offer various kinds of promotion in order to earn the RM1,000 to RM2,000 to pay for rent and staff wages. We are holding on till dine-in is allowed. The summons can kill us. I am very frustrated that this has occurred," he said.
Vicneswara showed the summons in the video and said he would try to appeal to reduce the fine. He now no longer accepts orders after 7pm.
"All businesses are suffering. Please support the restaurants so they can remain in business," he said.
Subang MP Wong Chen commented on the post and urged Vicneswara to contact him so that he could assist the latter.
