MITI letters not needed for hawkers?

PETALING JAYA, June 2 (Sin Chew Daily) – It is learned that the ministry of international trade and industry (MITI) has proposed to the national security council (MKN) that hawkers will only need to produce the licenses issued by the local authorities and their utility bills in order to operate during the current lockdown. They do not need to apply for approval from MITI.

According to a source, once the proposal has been accepted by MKN, hawkers will no longer need to apply for approval from MITI in order to operate during the lockdown.

The ministry's CIMS 3.0 system requires the applicants to provide their Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) registration numbers. However, many hawkers do not have SSM registration numbers.

The source said the ministry had submitted the proposal to MKN pending the government's announcement.
