Online meeting with business associations before lockdown decision

KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 (Sin Chew Daily) – Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Senior Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, had an online meeting this morning with representatives from several business organizations in the country before deciding whether to impose a full movement control order (MCO) in view of the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a source, among the organizations taking part in the online meeting this morning are the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM), the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers, Indian and Malay business associations, Malaysia International Chamber of Commerce, retail and automotive associations, among others.

Most of the organizations did not agree to a full MCO as this would impact the national economy.

They proposed that the government enforce stricter standard operating procedures (SOPs) instead of a complete lockdown.
