SEREMBAN, Apr 19 (Sin Chew Daily) — SJK(C) San Min holds a grand farewell party for retiring school general worker Puspa to thank her for her nine years of service at the school.
Puspa has worked in Chinese primary schools for a total of 39 years — 27 years at SJK(C) Chung Hua Seremban, four years at SJK (C) Chi Hwa and nine years at SJK (C) San Min.
Puspa was emotionally moved to be given such a grand farewell by the school on April 9.
"I like to be in the school. The school is a place to see children grow up and pursue their dreams," she said.
All the staff in the school were wearing either Indian costumes or traditional costumes when attending the farewell reception for Puspa.
Puspa was accompanied by her two sons and husband. They were greeted warmly by the pupils.
All chairs were placed one meter apart and everyone was wearing face masks, including pupils and teachers singing on the stage in compliance with the strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Teachers and pupils contributed cash donations to buy a gold bracelet as a farewell gift for Puspa.
She also received other gifts such as flowers and cakes from SJK (C) San Min's teachers, staff, board of directors and the parent-teacher association.
In return, Puspa gave all the pupils and teachers of the school a farewell treat.
"We live in a multiracial society. Puspa may be the only Indian at school, but she is very popular here and everyone will miss her," said headmistress Yan Shu Xia.
