IPOH, Jan 25 (Sin Chew Daily) — A Malaysian working as a senior officer in a technology firm in Singapore flew back to Ipoh in a charted flight to pay last respect to his father.

Assisted by Ipoh city councilor Albert Ho Wai Mun, the man arrived in Ipoh at 12.55pm on January 23, and was taken to a hotel for mandatory 7-day isolation. Health officers escorted him from the hotel to a funeral parlor at Jalan Masjid at 3pm to pay his last respect to his father.

The man was unable to attend the father's funeral at noon the following day, as health officers were not available to escort him because they had to handle isolation procedures for 65 passengers on a flight from Singapore on the day.

Ho told Sin Chew Daily he received a call from the man at 3pm Friday expressing his wish to pay his last respect to his father.

The man finally received the clearance from the relevant authorities at 9pm the same day.

Ho said the man contacted him through social media and he helped him get clearance from the authorities.

Ho thanked the airport authorities, police, immigration and customs for their assistance.
