Only 7 Umno reps support reconvening Parliament

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 20 (Sin Chew Daily) – Majority of Umno Members of Parliament are against resuming the parliamentary sitting to debate the issue of proclamation of emergency ordinance.

Of the 38 MPs from Umno, only seven support the proposal, including former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

So far already two Umno reps — Padang Rengas MP Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz and Machang MP Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub — have withdrawn their support for prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, whilel Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has never once expressed his support for the Perikatan Nasional government.

An Umno source told Sin Chew Daily, "You should know that those MPs supporting the reconvening of parliamentary sittings are from the 'court cluster'…"

When contacted by Sin Chew Daily, Rompin MP Datuk Seri Hasan Arifin said he personally did not agree to it.

"Umno is a Malay party and we always have deep respect for the Malay Rulers. We cannot go against the will of His Majesty.

"If we agree to reconvene the Parliament, it's like contravening party president Ahmad Zahid's statement supporting the proclamation of emergency ordinance."
