Umno MPs may hold back decision to withdraw support for PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12 (Sin Chew Daily) – Several Umno elected representatives who have intended to withdraw their support for prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin may have to change their minds or hold back their actions following the announcement of a state of emergency by His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

However, Umno's Padang Rengas MP Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz has just announced his decision to withdraw his support for the prime minister earlier today.

According to a source, among the Umno MPs who have intended to withdraw their support for Muhyiddin are former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman and Rompin MP Datuk Hasan Arifin.

In an interview with Sin Chew Daily, Hasan Arifin said it would be meaningless to withdraw support for the prime minister now that the King had declared a state of emergency.

"Withdrawal of support is meaningless now as there are no parliamentary sittings for MPs to table a motion of no confidence against the prime minister.

"Perhaps politicians can contemplate about political issues during this period of time…The state of emergency helps stabilize Malaysian politics,"
