KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 7 (Sin Chew Daily) – An Umno source said the party's supreme council meeting last night had set a deadline for prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to hold the 15th general election before April.
"An early election is inevitable…It'll be difficult to fix the economy because of political instability. But Umno does not want to be blamed for causing the pandemic to worsen.
"We only want the election to be held at the end of first quarter or before April. We'll bring this to the party's annual general assembly on January 31."
Meanwhile, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia remains firm not to bow to Umno's threats.
When contacted by Sin Chew Daily, PPBM supreme council member Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof said his party' principle was to hold the general election only after the pandemic.
"The (PPBM supreme council) meeting mainly talked about the pandemic, and rebuilding homes affected by the floods in east coast.
"We never set a date (for election). It all depends on the pandemic."
Several other PPBM leaders also confined with Sin Chew Daily that last night's meeting did not spend much time discussing the party's relationship with Umno.
