‘Islet’ will be screened uncensored here

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 2 (Sin Chew Daily) – Chong Keat Aun, director of The Story of Southern Islet and chairman of Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) Joanne Goh received the official report from the Film Censorship Board of Malaysia this morning, that "Islet" can be screened uncensored (Lulus Bersih) in the country.

However, the film will be classified as "P13", meaning viewers under 13 years of age need parental/guardian supervision.

Besides, the dialogue and subtitles on five parts of the movie will have to be muted and covered due to religious reasons.

Chong told Sin Chew Daily that he would try to get a better picture of the situation personally after his quarantine order ends in  a couple of days.

Censorship board chairman Mohd Zamberi Abdul Aziz said in an interview six days ago that no parts of the movie needed to be censored although some of the dialogue and subtitles had to be muted or covered.

"Islet" will be featured at the closing ceremony of the 4th Malaysian International Film Festival to be held on January 2 next year.

Chong wrote on Facebook this morning: "When I was having a video conference while taking my breakfast this morning, I received the notice that someone in the apartment tested positive for COVID-19. But my quarantine order is supposed to end in two days' time!"

When contacted by Sin Chew Daily, Chong said he was busy having a video conference with oversea partners. When asked whether he accepted the censorship board's decision, he replied in a short message: "I'll try to get a better picture of the situation personally after my quarantine order ends in a couple of days."
