KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 2 (Sin Chew Daily) — As the Dewan Rakyat begins Budget 2021 debate at the committee stage on Monday, all eyes are on the opposition whether the MPs would be raising objections against allocation for each ministry in a move to halt the Budget 2021.
A total of 31 ministers are to take turns to wind up the debate for 27 ministries under the Budget 2021 for ten days.
The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department and Finance Ministry are the first two ministries scheduled for debate at the committee stage on Monday.
For the next ten days, Budget 2021 allocations for two to three ministries have been scheduled to be debated each day.
If a total of 15 members of parliament (MPs) request for bloc voting, then MPs would have to vote for the Budget 2021 allocation for the ministry.
This means from now on, the MPs may have to vote two to three times each day in the Dewan Rakyat in order to approve the allocation for each ministry under Budget 2021.
If the budget allocation for a ministry is not passed, then the ministry would not be able to use the allocation and the operation of the ministry would then be halted.
Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stated that he does not guarantee that he would support allocations for all ministries and he may request for bloc voting whenever necessary.
Many opposition MPs apologized for not requesting for bloc voting when the Budget 2021 was passed at second reading last Thursday.
The opposition MPs are expected to stage a rebound by scrutinizing the budget allocation for each ministry seriously.
