KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 (Sin Chew Daily) – The announcement of a "political truce" by Umno doesn't mean Parti Keadilan Rakyat president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's plan to recapture Putrajaya has been called off.
In its stead, the party is now modifying its strategy and is turning to the Parliament to unseat prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
A Pakatan Harapan leader told Sin Chew Daily he believed Umno's "truce" is only temporary, and the party would continue to exert pressure on the prime minister once the COVID-19 situation improves.
"It now looks like it is impossible to change the government through the royalty. It is believed the battleground will now shift to the Parliament when the sitting resumes on November 2.
"There are different ways to topple Muhyiddin's government, including a no-confidence vote, and blocking a government bill, especially the 2021 Budget.
"A no-confidence motion against PM can only go ahead with the government's nod in order to get to be tabled and debated, which is very difficult."
Following the "political truce" announced by Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, PKR said it respected Umno's position but would continue to work hard to regain the people's mandate.
Meanwhile, a source told Sin Chew Daily the possibility of Umno having reached an agreement with Muhyiddin over new terms of cooperation could not be ruled out, as the "political truce" decision was made before Umno's supreme council meeting.
