Pakatan Harapan to meet on 6 July on prime minister designate

PETALING JAYA, The Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council will meet on Monday to discuss about prime minister designate.

Parti Amanah Negara ( Amanah) information chief Khalid Samad said the Democratic Action Part ( DAP) and  Amanah had called for central committee meeting respectively to discuss about the issue but both parties did not make decision. Instead, the issue was handed over to the Pakatan Harapan presidential council.

In an interview with Sin Chew Daily, Khalid said the Shafie Apdal – Anwar Ibrahim – Mukhriz Mahathir combination was the third option for Pakatan Harapan Plus to garner support from East Malaysia members of parliament.

If the Pakatan Harapan presidential council was unable to reach a consensus on the issue or Anwar, who is Parti Keadilan Rakyat president, did not agree, then the Pakatan Harapan Plus may offer the fourth option – Anwar- Shafie and Mukhriz combination.

“If Anwar disagrees that Shafie Apdal, the president of Parti Warisan Sabah,  to be the prime minister designate, we can still discuss for Anwar to be the one instead.

“This will be discussed at the presidential council.

“Pakatan Harapan still support Anwar to be the prime minister but he is unable to garner enough votes. Hence we need to look for other solution.

“The central committee of Amanah did not decide on the issue. We leave it to the Pakatan Harapan presidential council, “ he said.

Khalid was frank to say the Amanah was divided in its central committee meeting where it also analyzed the pros and cons of Shafie as prime minister designate.

After the Dr Mahathir Mohamad- Anwar combination failed, former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir proposed the Shafie-Anwar-Mukhriz combination where Shafie would be the prime  minister designate, Anwar as deputy prime minister I and Mukhriz as prime minister II.

Sin Chew Daily learned that DAP did not decide on Shafie-Anwar-Mukhriz combination.

Sources said the central executive committee of DAP reached a consensus that the Pakatan Harapan should work together to consolidate the coalition and strength in East Malaysia to form a stronger coalition to win in elections.

The DAP had decided to handover the issue to be discussed at the presidential council of Pakatan Harapan and called for a meeting to be convened before parliament sitting start on 13 July.

On the other hand, Khalid said there were some party leaders aligned to Perikatan Nasional who were unhappy with Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s leadership.

These leaders might have their own plans, he said.

“Except for Malaysia Islamic Party (PAS) where all would abide by party president, other parties would not do so.

“The Pakatan Harapan Plus now has at least 106 MPs, we are only short of six MPs to have simple majority in parliament,” he said.
