PETALING JAYA, June 17 (Sin Chew Daily) – Talks over the prime ministerial candidate of Pakatan Harapan ++ has hit a deadlock, as former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad remains indecisive, having changed his mind three times in a month.
As what we understand, the biggest issue lies with the fact Mahathir has insisted to become prime minister.
A source said Mahathir's changing attitude has caused PH, in particular PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to lose faith in him.
According to the source, when Mahathir met PH leaders for the first time, he said he had no objection to Anwar becoming prime minister and would try to persuade Warisan president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal to accept this. During their second meeting, Mahathir said he wanted to be PM for half a year, and during their third meeting, he said he needed one year in order to undo the problems caused by former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and incumbent prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The PH presidential council meeting scheduled for yesterday was called off last minute. No new date has been fixed.
PH chief secretary Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said in a statement last night that PH++ had not decided on the PM candidate yet, and would issue an official statement once a final decision has been made.
