KUANTAN, June 9 (Sin Chew Daily) — Weddings held during the enforcement of Movement Control Order (MCO) to curb the spread of COVID-19 can be very simple. Friends and relatives are invited to attend the wedding over teleconferencing software Zoom.

A couple was keen to hold a wedding reception during the MCO. After three days of planning, they decided to invite relatives and friends to the wedding over Zoom.

Shen Yu Wei and Liao Min Tong, both primary school teachers, tied the knot on June 6.

Liao's mother Huang Jing Hui told Sin Chew Daily her second daughter's wedding was held according to Chinese traditions despite friends and relatives unable to attend the wedding in person.

She said her daughter and son-in-law planned the wedding with recycling as its theme. All decorative items, flowers and wine bottles used at the wedding have been recycled items from Tzu-Chi.

"My family and my son-in-law's family are fans of recycling. We have no taboos using recycled items," she said.

Friends and relatives of the bride and groom were invited to the1-hour virtual wedding over Zoom, said Huang.

"The groom's family from Melaka are unable to attend the wedding held in Kuantan," she said.

The newly-weds serve their parents and relatives tea as shown on the computer screen.

"The virtual wedding is planned by the young people–my daughters, the bride and the groom.

"The virtual wedding is simple and environment-friendly, good during the MCO," she added.
