Segamat, Apr 29 (Sin Chew Daily) — One of the two brothers returning from Singapore is given special permission to pay last respect to their departed mother during their 14-day mandatory quarantine.
Escorted by a Civil Defense Department officer, 43-year-old Tung Ming Shan traveled from Johor Bahru to Segamat in a quarantine outfit.
Arriving at his home in Buloh Kasap about 10:00, the civil defense officer alighted from the car to explain the rules to those present at the funeral.
Ming Shan signed a document before he could kneel down in front of his mother's coffin to pay his last respect as the eldest son in the family for the last part of funeral rites.
The civil defense officer was present to make sure everyone complied with social distancing rules.
Family members were standing several meters away from Ming Shan. They communicated with one another by talking loudly or using sign language.
Ming Shan's mother passed away at the age of 70. She had two sons and two daughters.

Ming Shan's father Tung Jin Bao told Sin Chew Daily his wife died on April 26.
His two sons, both working in Singapore, rushed back to JB the same day and were sent to a hotel in town for their mandatory 14-day quarantine.
Ming Shan, who is the eldest in the family, was granted special permission by the authorities to go back to Segamat for the funeral on the third day of quarantine.
He attended the funeral for about 40 minutes and returned to the quarantine center in JB after that.
Jin Bao was grateful the authorities had allowed his eldest son to attend the funeral service.
He said Ming Shan's wife and children remained in Singapore and were unable to come back to Segamat due to MCO.
