First locally transmitted nCoV case in Malaysia

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 6 (Sin Chew Daily) — Health minister Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad said in a press conference at the health ministry today that there were two new confirmed cases of 2019 novel coronavirus infection in the country, including the first locally transmitted case involving the younger sister of Malaysia's first confirmed case.

The 40-year-old woman is married with two children. She met her 42-year-old brother when she went back to her hometown on January 23 for Chinese New Year celebration.

She began to have a fever on February 1 and started coughing on February 4. She is currently quarantined at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar for treatment.

The other newly confirmed coronavirus case involves a Chinese woman from Wuhan, who visited Kuala Lumpur with her mother and three friends.

There are so far 14 confirmed cases in Malaysia involving ten Chinese nationals and four Malaysians.
