Targeted electricity subsidy saves the govt RM4.1 bn

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy finance minister Steven Sim Chee Keong told the Dewan Negara today the targeted electricity subsidy policy during the first half of the year saves the government RM4.1 billion.

Replying to a verbal question by Senator Tan Sri Mohamad Fatmi Che Salleh from Umno, Sim said the targeted subsidy costs the government RM10.8 billion, down from the original RM14.9 billion.

Meanwhile, deputy minister in the prime minister’s department (law and institutional reform) Ramkarpal Singh replied to a question by PAS senator Datuk Hj Husain Awang at Dewan Negara that the government is studying relevant laws, including the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Act 613), to help victims of online scams recover their losses.
