Saiga antelopes graze after sunrise in the steppe on the border of Akmola and Kostanay regions of Kazakhstan.

A nasal bacteria wiped out more than half of the world’s Saiga antelope population.

But now the species is bouncing back, with Kazakh authorities hailing protective measures for a creature that survived the Ice Age.
