PUTRAJAYA, Aug 9 (Sin Chew Daily) – A total of 17,236 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the country as of noon today, including 29 imported cases.

Selangor reported 5,740 new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (1,567), Kedah (1,328), Sabah (1,247), Johor (1,232), Negeri Sembilan (1,215), Perak (935), Kelantan (914), Penang (908), Pahang (604), Sarawak (589), Terengganu (501) and Melaka (360).

To date there are a cumulative total of 1,279,776 confirmed cases and 1,041,585 recoveries (including 15,187 recovering today) at 81.39% recovery rate.

212 new deaths were reported today, taking the toll to 10,961.

There are currently 227,230 active cases, including 1,095 at ICUs, 579 requiring ventilators.
