Cancer survivor urges govt to allow TCM practitioners to operate during lockdown

KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 (Sin Chew Daily) — A cancer survivor has appealed to the government to allow traditional Chinese medicine practitioners to operate during the current lockdown.

In an open letter, a cancer survivor, identified as THH, said her treatment was forced to be put on hold as traditional Chinese medicine practitioners are not allowed to operate during the lockdown.

"I need to continue with the treatment. Why are clinics allowed to operate but not Chinese medicine services?" she asked.

THH was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer in 2018. She underwent 33 times of radiotherapy and six times of chemotherapy. THH has endured pain for two years.

"I have been seeking medical treatment by visiting many specialists in hospitals. I sought medical treatment from specialists in neurology, rheumatology, physiotherapy and many others. Painkillers are ineffective for me.

"However, after I started to receive TCM treatment, the level of pain has reduced. Unfortunately TCM practitioners are not allowed to operate during the lockdown. I am unable to receive my treatment," she wrote.

After undergoing traditional Chinese medicine treatment and acupuncture, her neck pain and headache has improved.

She hoped the government would listen to the appeal made by patients seeking traditional Chinese medicine treatment.
