KL and Selangor Teochew Association to arrange vaccination for members

PETALING JAYA, June 27 (Sin Chew Daily) — To assist the government in achieving herd immunity faster, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Teochew Association has allocated funds to arrange for COVID-19 vaccination for its members, while Selangor KL Guangxi Association is looking into the feasibility of offering its members vaccination.

It is learned that Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Teochew Association joined the MyMedic@Wilayah vaccine mobile truck organized by Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa to offer its members vaccination.

President of the association Lin Jia Guang said the association had allocated RM100,000 for members to be vaccinated on June 29 and 30.

Lin told Sin Chew Daily the association targeted to vaccinate 1,500 people.

Although the vaccine is provided free of charge, Lin said the association would charge RM100 for two doses of injection to pay for costs such as venue, doctors, trucks, medical staff and others.

Association members would not need to pay for the charges but non-members have to pay for the charges to Protecthealth Corporation, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Health.

Lin said he told Annuar that the association is helping the country and its members to achieve herd immunity faster.

"If we can help the members receive vaccination and reduce the government's burden and achieve herd immunity faster, we are willing to do so," said Lin.

The secretariat of the association received 800 people signing up for the vaccination on the first day of registration.

Non-members are allowed to sign up if the vaccination slots are still available. Selangor KL Guangxi Association president Deng Hong Zhi said the association is looking into the feasibility of offering vaccine to its members like the KL and Selangor Teochew Association.

"Based on KL and Selangor Teochew Association's plan, the vaccination slots are to be fully taken up. We are trying to gauge from our side as some of our members who are 50 years old and above have been vaccinated,"' he said.
