PETALING JAYA, (Sin Chew Daily) — Disabled artist Daud Baharin receives a birthday gift he has been waiting for the past 10 years – an electrical wheelchair. 

Philanthropist Kuan Chee Heng, also known as Uncle Kentang, personally handed over the electrical wheelchair to him.

Daud is a disabled artist who paints in Wangsa Walk in Wangsa Maju area.

In an interview with Sin Chew Daily, Kuan said someone told him about Daud. 

He then raised the fund for him to buy an electrical wheelchair at RM5,500.

Daud has been applying for an electrical wheelchair from several agencies for years, and has been waiting for their reply for the past 10 years, said Kuan.

"Both his hands are not strong enough to push the wheelchair. He needs help from someone to do so.

"If no one helps him, he can't even go to the toilet. Both his knees are bruised too," said Kuan.

Daud was touched when receiving the electrical wheelchair. 

"I was even more touched because he said it was his birthday when I told him I had raised enough money for him to buy an electrical wheelchai," said Kuan.

Both men were moved to tears when they met again.

Daud was grateful to have received the wheelchair while Kuan was moved by Daud's iron will.

"He does not beg but earns his living by sketching portraits for other people," Kuan said.

Daud is not the only person helped by Kuan. He has been helping many others over the years!

Kuan started a long-term project over a year ago to provide free meals for the underprivileged in Puchong area.

During the Movement Control Order, the meal project continued as more people faced financial problems.

When asked about the reason for him to spend huge sums of money and time on helping other people, Kuan replied, "We are all Malaysians. I will try my best to help."

"Sometimes we receive old wheelchairs donated by people. We will send the wheelchairs for repair before giving them to those in need.

"We also have companies sending us wheelchairs," he said.
