8 areas record unhealthy API readings as at 7am

KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 (Bernama) -- Eight areas recorded unhealthy air pollution index (API) readings as at 7 am today, compared to five areas yesterday.

According to the Environment Department, Putrajaya recorded the highest API reading at 113, Banting and Port Klang (110), Cheras (107), Nilai (106), Shah Alam (105), Petaling Jaya (104) and Batu Muda (102).

Meanwhile, the API for Port Dickson which recorded an unhealthy reading yesterday had gone down to a moderate 82.

Thirty areas recorded moderate API readings including Kuala Selangor (98), Seremban (88), Seri Manjung (74) and Bakar Arang, Sungai Petani (71). Twelve areas throughout the country recorded good air quality, with the lowest, at 30, in Langkawi and Sandakan.

An API reading of between zero and 50 indicates good air quality; between 51 and 100, moderate; between 101 and 200, unhealthy; between 201 and 300, very unhealthy and over 301, hazardous.
