Accusations are normal for a leader, says Shahrizat

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil described the allegation or accusation she is facing concerning the National Feedlot Centre (NFC) controversy as normal for a leader.

In fact, she also understood that what was being done by the opposition was merely to weaken her spirit as the Wanita Umno head, which was also a pillar of strength for the Barisan Nasional.

"All over the world, every government and every political party, whether you are with the government or opposition, you are going through challenging times. There is nothing extraordinary or peculiar (about it).

"When you are a leader, you will always be in the line of fire," she told reporters after presenting hampers in conjunction with the birthday of Prophet Muhammad SAW at the Maternity Ward, Kuala Lumpur Hospital, here today.

Shahrizat said she would not answer any question pertaining to the NFC as the matter was under investigation and asked everyone not to label her as being guilty until a decision had been made.

"As a lawyer and former magistrate, (I) don't find people guilty until proven so. That is the law in the land," she said.

Meanwhile, the minister said that what gave her strength was to continue the struggle when seeing the spirit and strength of the Wanita and disabled group who never wavered when facing challenges.

"What gives me inspiration is the target group of the ministry, namely the women, children, the disabled group and the poor because I have a vision for them and I love them," she said.

Shahrizat has been linked to the NFC issue, headed by her husband, Dr Mohamad Salleh, when the Auditor-General's Report 2010 released in October last year stated that NFC had failed to fulfill the objectives of its establishment.

The issue became heated when the opposition claimed that a government allocation of RM250 channeled to NFC had been misappropriated.
