Mohd Azahar pledges to serve all races

LABIS, Wednesday 19 January 2011 (Bernama) -- The Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the by-election for the Tenang state constituency, Mohd Azahar Ibrahim is urging the electorate to give him an opportunity to serve them.

Mohd Azahar, who was announced as the BN candidate today by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, pledged to give the best possible service to the voters in Tenang regardless of their racial and religious backgrounds.

"Give me a chance to serve the residents. I will give the best service to everyone regardless of their background and religious beliefs," he said at the ceremony to announce the BN candidate at the Labis Umno division office, here today.

A father of three children, he said he would strive to win the by-election with the strong support of all the races in the Tenang state constituency.

The Labis-born Azhar, who is married to housewife Tuty Roshizana Tumin, graduated from the Institut Teknologi Mara (ITM) with a Diploma in Public Administration in 1993.

He also holds a Masters in Politics (Honours) degree from Portsmouth.

Mohd Azahar said if he were elected as the Tenang Assemblyman, he would get down on the ground to look at the needs of the people and ensure rapid development in the constituency.

His wide experience while serving in the Johor Civil Service gave him extensive knowledge in the fields of community development.

Since 2006, he had served as the assistant land administrator for the Rengit Sub-district, Batu Pahat and prior to that, he was the assistant land administrator in Segamat and Kluang.

He had resigned as a staff in the Johor civil service.

"The experience in serving as an assistant land administrator in several districts gave me extensive knowledge on the needs of the people in terms of development," he said.

The by-election for the Tenang state seat is being held on Jan 30 following Sulaiman's death on Dec 17.

Nomination day has been fixed for Jan 22.

In the 2008 general election, Sulaiman beat PAS candidate Mohd Saim Siran with a majority of 2,492 votes.

Tenang has 14,753 registered voters comprising 7,014 Malays, 5,766 Chinese, 1,780 Indians while the rest are made of of other races.
