PONTIAN, Oct 3 (Sin Chew Daily) -- Tanjung Piai voters say they cannot accept the cooperation between Umno and PAS.

They also say if Umno were to field its candidate in Tanjung Piai, some of the Chinese votes for BN will drain away.

When approached by Sin Chew Daily, some of the Chinese voters in Tanjung Piai said many were indeed impressed by the performance of former MP Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng, adding that he was also very popular among the local Malays.

As such, many in Tanjung Piai hope that Wee will contest again this time so that he can continue serving the constituency.

The voters told Sin Chew Daily Wee has good chances of winning the seat as more than half of Chinese voters in Tanjung Piai will vote for him.

They said many people were disenchanted by PH's empty promises and they failed to see the changes promised by PH.

Nevertheless, the local Chinese voters are strongly resistant to Umno contesting in the by-election because of its alliance with PAS.

During the 2018 general elections, Wee lost to PPBM's Md Farid Md Rafik by a razor thin majority of 524 votes.
