Explicit instruction needed, says headmaster

  • A school headmaster says it is necessary for the education ministry to give a more explicit instruction on the teaching of Khat at schools.

PETALING JAYA, Aug 9 (Sin Chew Daily) -– According to a school headmaster, the education ministry has authorized the teachers to decide how they should teach Jawi calligraphy, not the school authorities, headmaster or school board.

As such, he said it was necessary for the education ministry to give a more explicit instruction on this matter.

The headmaster told Sin Chew Daily if a teacher does not know Jawi himself, he will not know how to teach the students, but if he can master the language, he will naturally teach the students, which is what the Chinese community is worried about.

He also said Bahasa Malaysia teachers at Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) must be bilingual. However, in Stage 2 (Years 4 to 6), the teachers have to be graduates from teacher training institute majoring in Bahasa Melayu.
