Students can choose whether to learn Jawi

PETALING JAYA, Aug 7 (Sin Chew Daily) -– According to a cabinet source, the cabinet has decided to go ahead with the teaching of Jawi calligraphy or Khat at Year Four Chinese and Tamil primary schools.

The source told Sin Chew Daily the education ministry would revise the DSKP (Standard Document for Curriculum and Assessment) to ensure that Jawi would not be made an examination subject.

The source added that the cabinet had authorized education minister Maszlee Malik to issue a preliminary statement on the issue.

“The education minister will soon issue a statement to announce the details.

“Jawi calligraphy will still be taught in Year Four, but students can choose to learn or not to learn."
