KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 (Sin Chew Daily) –- According to a source, most of the elected representatives from DAP objected to the teaching of Jawi calligraphy or Khat in SRJK Year Four, during a special meeting held last night.

The party leaders were of the opinion that an additional subject would not only add to the students' burden but also alter the nature of Chinese primary schools in the country.

The source said many party leaders were also aware of the strong resistance from the Chinese community against the new education policy as well as their frustration at the party.

DAP secretary-general cum finance minister Lim Guan Eng has been authorized to convey the party's official stand to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The prime minister's secretary told Sin Chew Daily Tun Mahathir met Lim at 08:45 this morning before flying off to Japan in the afternoon.

Lim is expected to issue a statement on this matter later today after meeting the prime minister.
