KAJANG, Aug 5 (Sin Chew Daily) -– The United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia and the United Chinese School Teachers’ Association of Malaysia, collectively known as Dong Jiao Zong, today issued a joint statement with some ten Chinese and Tamil education organizations in the country on the issue of incorporating Jawi calligraphy into Year Four Bahasa Malaysia curriculum at vernacular schools.

They urged the education ministry to postpone the implementation of this new policy to allow for more negotiations.

Meanwhile, Dong Jiao Zong will meet deputy education minister Teo Nie Ching over the issue tomorrow to express the stand of the joint signatories.

Dong Zong president Tan Tai Kim said in a press conference after the joint meeting that the signatories did not agree to the inclusion of Jawi calligraphy in Standard Four BM curriculum.

He said their decision was not meant to deny Bahasa Malaysia or Jawi nor reject cultural diversity of the country.
