Rafizi to be called as witness in NFC case

KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 (Bernama) -- PKR vice president Mohd Rafizi Ramli will be called to testify in the defamation case of National Feedlot Corporation Sdn Bhd (NFCorp) and its executive chairman Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Salleh Ismail.

Defendants in the suit are Lembah Pantai member of parliament Nurul Izzah Anwar and PKR's then secretary general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution.

Mohamad Salleh is alleging slander by the defendants for saying that he had misused NFCorp's funds to purchase eight units of property at KL Eco City.

His lawyer Syed Ismat Syed Muhammad told reporters when met, that High Court judge Datuk Hue Siew Kheng who presided over the proceedings in chambers today, has set April 15 for case management.

Syed Ismat said Mohamad Salleh and Nurul Izzah had already given their testimonies on Jan 5 and Jan 7 respectively, but would be recalled to the witness stand.

On Feb 4, justice Hue allowed an application by Mohamad Salleh to amend his reply to the defendants' statement of defence, to insert 'malice' in his claim.

The plaintiffs filed the suit on Dec 24, 2013, alleging that Nurul Izzah had slandered them in her comments on the alleged disclosure by Rafizi, who was then the PKR's strategy director of misappropriation by Mohamad Salleh.

Rafizi had allegedly said that the plaintiff had purchased eight units of property at KL Eco City using NFCorp's funds.

The plaintiffs alleged that Nurul Izzah made the slanderous statement on Malaysiakini TV on March 7, 2012.

Lawyer Joshua Kevin represented the defendants in the case.
